Stainless steel woks are a multi-functional cooking pan and can be used for steaming, cooking, or frying. Due to stainless steel’s excellent corrosion and rust resistance, stainless steel woks are extremely durable, but it is very simple to make the wok not clean for a long time, leading to easy oil and food residue deposition, affecting its usage effect. This article offers in detail the stainless steel woks’ cleaning process to enrich your kitchen cooking experience even further.

ToggleDaily Cleaning Routine
The following are the steps in washing your stainless steel wok:
- Let the wok cool down and clean it in warm water. Avoid using cold straight water to prevent warpage of the wok.
- Fill some dishwashing liquid into the wok and clean it with a sponge or soft material in circles. Avoid high-concentration strong cleaners and steel wool to avoid damaging the wall of the wok.
- Wash the wok using clean water and dry it using a towel to prevent rust or water marks.
- Finally, place the wok in such a position that it will not get crushed or scratched by other appliances in the kitchen.
Removing Stubborn Stains and Burnt Residue
Your wok may develop burnt spots and discoloration with time. We have three ways to handle them:
Baking Soda Paste Method
- Mix baking soda with a little water to form a thick paste.
- Apply the paste to the stained area and let it sit for 10–15 minutes.
- Gently scrub using a non-abrasive sponge, then rinse and dry.
Vinegar and Boiling Water Technique
- Fill the wok with water and add one cup of white vinegar.
- Boil the solution for a few minutes to loosen food and burnt stains.
- Drain off the liquid, scrub lightly, rinse, and dry.
Bar Keepers Friend or Stainless Steel Cleaner
- For a high shine, apply a stainless steel cleaner available commercially or Bar Keepers Friend.
- Apply as per product instructions and rinse off afterward.
Prolonging the Life of Your Wok
- Cook over medium or low heat because high heat can quickly darken the pan.
- Clean the pan with a little vinegar or lemon juice periodically to keep it shiny.
- Use a wooden, silicone, or nylon soft spatula to avoid using metal spatulas to scratch the surface of the pan.
- Dry the pan before storing it to prevent rusting.
